SAUK RAPIDS SOFTBALL MEETING

SUNDAY March 30th, 2025

SAUK RAPIDS VFW 901 N. BENTON Dr. S.R.

7:00 P.M. SHARP

I would like to thank all the teams, players & fans who participate & support the fields & complex at Bob Cross Park. Without your support the City of Sauk Rapids would not have the quality complex we have today. You have my sincere thanks Each year we use the money from the players’ fee to improve the fields. The covers over the dugouts are starting to weather & need to be replaced. We are working on getting permanent roofs for the dugouts but do not have enough funds to replace them yet. The last estimate is $62,000 for 8 dugouts. The covers will take longer to replace because of other expenses. Last year the Dept. of Food & Health inspected the concession stand and to keep selling food we needed to make some changes. We had to install 2 hand washing sinks, one three compartments sink for washing utensils, commercial roasters and have epoxy put on the floor. The epoxy was put on the floor last fall & other items were also completed. The total cost of the epoxy on the floor was $12,000, which the SRSA had to pay half & the City of S.R. paid half.

Another issue was the scoreboards. The scoreboard on field #4 cannot be repaired because the company does not have parts for that scoreboard anymore. The scoreboards are 16 years old. I talked to a Representative from Bernick’s to see if they would sign another 10-year contact if we would sell their products at the concession stand & they would cover the cost of replacing four new scoreboards. After numerous meetings they offered to pay $17,500 of the $22,500 of the cost of the scoreboards. SRSA will need to pay the remainder of the cost. The scoreboard on field #4 should be replaced at the start of the season.

The last two year the fees for umpires has raised from $26.00 per game to $28.00 but we are not going to raise the entry fees this year again. It has cost the SRSA over $4,000 more in the last two years for umpire’s fees. We appreciate everyone who supports the concessions and that helps cover some of the cost so we can keep the entry fee low. Anyone who has an interest in becoming an umpire please contact Mark Bauer, 320 267 5778 or me for information.
